Elizabeth Carr

Canada is Elizabeth’s adopted country, chosen by her parents when her family fled their troubled homeland during the Hungarian uprising, more than fifty years ago. Once settled in Canada, her father found time to paint in oils. He encouraged Elizabeth to do the same, when she was in her teens. She dabbled a bit, but real inspiration would not come until some forty years later, making her a late, untrained, starter.

During extended stays in France, the rustic charm was to become the muse that prompted her to want to paint. At her husband’s suggestion, she bought an inexpensive set of watercolours and started to capture some of what makes France such a joy to visit. Doing watercolours filled in the time in France, when they were not travelling, and it has remained a very rewarding hobby. Recently, though, she has experimented with graphite with fairly good success. She loves the medium, and as it suits her style, it allows her to develop as an artist.
Since 2008, the Zurich area has been a large part of her inspiration ever since.

Elizabeth has successfully exhibited her watercolour and pencil works in the Huron County Art Show at the museum in Goderich, the Paint Ontario Art Show at the Lambton County Museum and in the South Huron Art Show in Exeter.
Elizabeth chose the 'Windfalls' to submit to the Jessica's House fundraiser because, to her, apples represent vitality, vigour and good health as 'one a day keeps the doctor away' according to the adage. Elizabeth hopes that her painting may symbolize the ultimate hope for vitality, health, and vigour.
