George Wilson

“Traditionally, folk art sprang from a desire to make human and meaningful the daily round of work and home life, and thus reflected the cultural and regional diversity of Canada” (http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/folk-art/).

At the age of 40, while living in Exeter, Ontario, George became a self-taught folk artist. George says he loves to use bright colors to express his outlook on life. Born in Toronto in 1971, the major influences in his life were his parents, natives of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Their history in these most scenic of provinces inspired him to paint many east coast scenes. His paintings are nostalgic, playful and packed with great memories.

George really is a spark of creativity in our area. If something involving community betterment is going on, expect to see him there--especially if it involves the arts.

George has sold his art in Ottawa, Toronto, London, St Jacobs, Aberfoyle, locally and even in Switzerland. Recently George proudly opened his own shop: Turning Point Boutique on Main St. in Exeter; the shop offers not only a wide variety of his work but also that of other local artists.

George says that when he paints, it is his goal to make people smile and that their day will be brighter and more beautiful.  Everyone who meets George knows that he achieves his goal daily and that knowing him is a bright and beautiful experience.
