Sue Rowan

For as long as she can remember Sue Rowan, from Palgrave, Ontario, has been making things. She is an artist, a teacher, and a “forever student”, taking and teaching classes and creating art in pottery, mosaics and jewelry.

Sue is fortunate enough to be able to teach classes in beginner hand build pottery, mosaics, aka “Chipped China”, and jewelry in her community. She uses old china, found objects, bottle and sea glass and stones in the piquet assiette style.  Sue is thrilled when her students, who start a class saying “I cannot do art!”, leave with a piece of art that they are thrilled to say, ”I did this!”

Her creative-process 3Rs are: recycle, restyle and recreate! In jewelry-making her inspiration comes from the designs on the silver tray, bowl, plate or cutlery. She also incorporates old china and found objects with silver wire to create wearable art.

It is often said that everything old is new again. What others see as old and tarnished silver on a shelf at Value Village or in Grandma’s curio cabinet, Sue sees as new “Bright and Beautiful” necklaces, bracelets and pendants.

Sue hopes to keep learning, teaching, experimenting, creating and challenging herself through her art and craft.
