Suzann Ferris-Jones

Susann is an artist who thrives on variation, on departure from the norm; she is someone who adapts well to challenge. Beginning in childhood, she has continuously painted and sketched. However, as an adult, Susann was drawn to professional dance as well. It has always been about creating, whether on canvas or on stage.

Her eventual successful artistic career has included textile design, painting on fabric, sculpture, costume design, illustrative colour, artwork for a wide genre of books, acrylic on wood, watercolours, portraits, landscapes and depicting nature whether flora or fauna. Susann’s painting on wood is often a combination of techniques, utilizing pen and ink, acrylic or watercolour, while allowing the grain of the wood to show, to become part of the piece.

Susann’s latest undertaking for the Art Unhinged project fit perfectly with her preference for painting “big.” The selection of a door to transform illustrates her willingness—indeed, penchant—to create something different.  Only Susann would choose a folding door on which to work some magic.  The resulting art piece will undoubtedly be exceptionally distinctive.

The subjects of her painting “Nuthatch & Question Mark” both have wings and can fly anywhere; they just had a chance encounter on a lovely day.

The art work is painted in watercolour and acrylic on arches archival watercolour paper.
