In 1997 Teresa Marie took the big risk of giving up waged
work to commit to art. Though
commissioned portraiture still comprises much of her work, still lifes,
sunsets, boats, landscapes and waterscapes grace the walls of patrons world-wide. She uses strong colours to convey the
joy of discovery that she finds in life; oil is her preferred medium. Her
subject matter continues to expand, as does her technique.
Her travels with husband Peter have provided her with fresh
inspiration and new subjects to explore, and her work has been featured in
International Artists’ Magazine, “Master Painters of the World, Canada Showcase”
Teresa Marie is the founder of the Grand Bend Art Centre, which
operates from a municipally-owned facility next to the Fire Hall. The GBAC
provides art programs and experiences to hundreds of Grand Bend residents and
visitors. As well, it is the
organiser of the Paint Ontario Art Show and Sale, held annually in March at the
Lambton Heritage museum.
When pondering the theme for this Jessica’s House
fundraiser, Teresa Marie considered the people of all ages and faiths and their
situations that would lead them to a place where they would be saying their
last farewells. She wanted this
painting to be playful and one that could be related to by anyone. She loves watching the fish swim, like
a dance, with light on the water often resulting in swirls of colour. She created “Ripple Dance” especially
for this event.
